Welcome to another year at UBC! The Botany Enthusiasts Club would like to welcome all new members to our club this year!

Here are out list of events for the first term.

[1] Social Night
A welcome back party! Meet up new people, showing off your babies etc. The most important part is the FREE FOOD. A plant of yours for show and tell will be appreciated. If interest, please reply ASAP.

What: Social Night
When: September 28th, 2012 (Friday), 5pm - 7pm.
Where: Biological Science 1024 OR in front of Biology Office
How much: FREE. 
What to bring: Appetite (to enjoy the food). Cutlery (to be environmental friendly). Plants (to show off).

[2] UBC Farm Tour
UBC Farm is located in the South campus and there is a Farmers Market every Saturday that opens until mid-October. We will join the tour of the Farm (about 30 minutes) in the morning on 6th October 2012, Saturday. There will be two meeting place:
1. 99 bus stop in the bus loop at 10.30am. 
2. At the farm at 11.00am.

What: UBC Farm Tour
Where: UBC Farm or 99 bus stop in the bus loop.
When:  6th October 2012, Saturday. 10.30am at the bus loop or 11.00am at the farm.
How much: FREE.
What to bring: Bags if getting groceries.

[3] Apple Festival
Apple Festival is an annual huge event on campus, which is held on 13th and 14th October this year. There will be a lot of people, and apples, of course. There are products of apples (yummy apple pie etc.), apple trees and apples. Apple-tasting is highly recommended. During the half-hour session, we can taste more than thirty varieties of apples. If we are early enough, we might be able to secure bags of unique apples that are not commonly found in the market.

Unfortunately, there is an entrance fee ($4) and an apple-tasting fee ($5). Fortunately, BEC member gets 50% discount.

We will meet at the UBC Botanical Garden gate on 13th October 2012, Saturday at 12pm.

What to bring: Good spirit. Healthy appetite. Money (if getting stuff).

[4] Fungi Hunt
We are joining the Mycology Class (BIOL323) to collect mushroom and other fungi in the Capilano Park. If you want to collect your own mushroom, wax papers and plastic bags or boxes are very useful to bring along. If not, tag along with a class member and help them with collection. This is a free event, but seats are limited. Please reply ASAP to secure your seat.

What: Fungi Hunt
Where: UBC (exact location TBA)
When: About 9.30am (exact time TBA). Probably be back to campus around 3.30pm.
How much: Free 
What to bring: Wax papers and plastic bag or boxes if intend to expand your own collection. Lunch.

[5] Fungi Show
Fungi Show is held by the Vancouver Mycological Society that presents various edible and non-edible fungi. There will be a fungi exhibition, fungi cataloguing, edible fungi for sale, talks, posters, and (a small amount of) free food. There is a mistake on the membership card. The Fungi Show is only on 28th October 2012. Admission fee is $3, but BEC members received 50% discount.

When: 28th October 2012, Sunday at 11pm
How much: Entrance fee $3. BEC members receive 50% discount.

[6] Plant a Pot
Feeling that your room is a bit bare? Wanting for a bit green? Plant a Pot is an event which students plant their own pot of plants from seeding and cutting. We supply all materials. Seedlings includes herbs, sunflowers, Mimosa pudica (touch-me-not), vegetables etc. while cuttings includes Sansevieria trifasciat (mother-in-law tongue) etc. All plants could be left in the greenhouse until the end of the term, but please bring them home before final exam starts because there will be no one taking care of the plants during the break. The cost is $4 for a big pot and $2 for a small pot. Members receive 50% off.

When: 29th and 30th October 2012. Time TBA.
How much: $4 for a big pot and $2 for a small pot. Members receive 50% off.
